Created in His Image

Laura and Dan sat across from each other in the coffee shop, steam rising from their cups. They had been friends for years, often engaging in deep conversations about life, faith, and the universe. But today, Laura decided to ask Dan a question that had been on her mind for a while.

“Dan, do you believe that a 747 jet could assemble itself from a junkyard over, say, five billion years?” she asked, stirring her tea.

Dan chuckled, shaking his head. “Of course not. That would be ridiculous. A jet is far too complex for something like that to happen randomly.”

Laura smiled. “I agree. Now, let me ask you something else—so why do you think the human body, which is far more complex than a 747, could assemble itself from mud?”

Dan opened his mouth to respond, but no words came. He frowned, staring down at his coffee, trying to form an answer.

Laura let the silence settle between them before gently continuing. “The truth is, we didn’t just ‘assemble’ ourselves. We were created.” She leaned forward, her voice calm yet firm. “And not just created, Dan. We were made in the very image of God.”

Dan looked up, his skepticism evident, but he didn’t argue. Laura continued, “The Bible tells us in Genesis that ‘God created mankind in His own image, in the image of God He created them; male and female He created them’ (Genesis 1:27). That means we are not accidents of time and chance. We are intentional. We have purpose. We reflect something greater than ourselves.”

Dan sighed, rubbing his temples. “But science—”

“Science can explain a lot of things,” Laura interrupted gently. “But it can’t explain why we have a conscience. Why we have love, creativity, moral law written on our hearts. Science can study life, but it can’t create it. Only God can do that.”

Dan fell silent again, this time nodding slightly as he processed her words.

Laura took a sip of her tea, then smiled. “You don’t have to answer now. Just think about it.”

As Dan stared out the window, watching the people walk by, he couldn’t shake the thought: What if she was right?

Scripture Reflection:

"So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them."
—Genesis 1:27 (NIV)

God’s creation of humanity was not an accident. He designed us with purpose, value, and dignity. Unlike everything else in creation, we were made in His image, reflecting His nature. This means that every person—no matter their background, beliefs, or circumstances—is deeply loved by God.

Take a moment to reflect on this truth. You are not an accident. You are a masterpiece, created by the Almighty God.

The Unseen Hand

Sarah had always prided herself on being independent. As a single mother of two, she worked tirelessly to provide for her family. Her days were packed with responsibilities—work, school drop-offs, bills to pay. She had no choice but to keep going, no matter how exhausted she felt.

One winter evening, after a long shift at the hospital, Sarah loaded her two young boys into the car. The roads were slick with ice, and visibility was poor. She gripped the steering wheel tightly, praying under her breath as she navigated through the winding backroads home.

Suddenly, a truck sped toward them from the opposite direction, its headlights blinding her. Sarah swerved to avoid it, but the car skidded on black ice. Everything happened in slow motion. She felt the car spinning, her boys screaming in the backseat. Then—a jolt.

When Sarah opened her eyes, she realized the car had stopped just inches from the edge of a steep ravine. Her hands trembled as she turned to check on her children. They were shaken but unharmed. Tears filled her eyes as she tried to make sense of what had just happened.

A knock on the window startled her. A man in a heavy coat stood outside. He had kind eyes and a reassuring smile.

"Are you all right?" he asked.

Sarah nodded, still shaken. "I don’t know how we stopped in time."

The man looked at the car, then back at her. "You had help," he said simply.

Before she could respond, he turned and walked away, disappearing into the darkness.

Sarah stepped out of the car, looking around. There were no other vehicles, no houses nearby—nothing but the silence of the snowy night. Had he been an angel? A passerby? She didn’t know. But one thing was certain: Someone had been watching over her that night.

As she drove home, she whispered, "Thank You, Lord."

Scripture Reflection:

"For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways."
—Psalm 91:11 (NIV)

God’s protection often comes in ways we cannot see or understand. Sometimes, He places people in our path at just the right moment. Other times, His presence is felt in the peace that follows chaos. No matter what dangers we face, we can trust that God is watching over us.

When have you experienced God’s unseen hand in your life? Take a moment to thank Him for His constant care.
