The Unseen Hand

Sarah had always prided herself on being independent. As a single mother of two, she worked tirelessly to provide for her family. Her days were packed with responsibilities—work, school drop-offs, bills to pay. She had no choice but to keep going, no matter how exhausted she felt.

One winter evening, after a long shift at the hospital, Sarah loaded her two young boys into the car. The roads were slick with ice, and visibility was poor. She gripped the steering wheel tightly, praying under her breath as she navigated through the winding backroads home.

Suddenly, a truck sped toward them from the opposite direction, its headlights blinding her. Sarah swerved to avoid it, but the car skidded on black ice. Everything happened in slow motion. She felt the car spinning, her boys screaming in the backseat. Then—a jolt.

When Sarah opened her eyes, she realized the car had stopped just inches from the edge of a steep ravine. Her hands trembled as she turned to check on her children. They were shaken but unharmed. Tears filled her eyes as she tried to make sense of what had just happened.

A knock on the window startled her. A man in a heavy coat stood outside. He had kind eyes and a reassuring smile.

"Are you all right?" he asked.

Sarah nodded, still shaken. "I don’t know how we stopped in time."

The man looked at the car, then back at her. "You had help," he said simply.

Before she could respond, he turned and walked away, disappearing into the darkness.

Sarah stepped out of the car, looking around. There were no other vehicles, no houses nearby—nothing but the silence of the snowy night. Had he been an angel? A passerby? She didn’t know. But one thing was certain: Someone had been watching over her that night.

As she drove home, she whispered, "Thank You, Lord."

Scripture Reflection:

"For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways."
—Psalm 91:11 (NIV)

God’s protection often comes in ways we cannot see or understand. Sometimes, He places people in our path at just the right moment. Other times, His presence is felt in the peace that follows chaos. No matter what dangers we face, we can trust that God is watching over us.

When have you experienced God’s unseen hand in your life? Take a moment to thank Him for His constant care.
